Renew Your Confidence with a Natural-Looking Facelift

What Is A Facelift?

Facelifts are surgical procedures intended to restore a youthful appearance to the face, medically known as rhytidectomy. With age, the skin becomes laxer, and facial volume declines. As a result, many people develop deeper wrinkles, folds, and unwanted creases as a result of this. Surgery can reduce skin sagging or folds in the cheeks and jawline, and other changes in the face shape caused by aging.

Our facial bony skeleton, fat compartments, and soft tissue attachments undergo complex changes as we get older. As a result, the skin becomes lax and wrinkles worsen. The underlying fat compartments decrease in size and descend, and the attachments loosen between the skin and the underlying tissues. Facelift procedures aim to restore tissues to their previous position, augment deficient tissues, reduce excess tissues, and restore deep attachments.

Types of Facelift

Deep Plane Facelift

The Deep Plane Facelift lifts deeper facial tissues for long-lasting and natural-looking results. Incisions are similar to traditional facelifts but involve a more extensive repositioning of facial muscles and tissues. The incision is done from the lateral hairline to the ear-cheek junction and into the posterior hairline. This type of facelift is most suitable for individuals seeking dramatic improvements in sagging and wrinkles.

Cutaneous Facelift (Skin-Only)

Alternatively known as a skin-only facelift, a cutaneous facelift involves lifting and tightening only the face skin. The cutaneous facelift is less comprehensive than a comprehensive facelift, since it only targets the outer layer of skin. In a cutaneous facelift the incision is done from the lateral hairline to the ear-cheek junction and into the posterior hairline.

Composite Facelift

A composite facelift targets the skin, underlying muscles, and fat beneath the skin to rejuvenate the entire face. With this type of facelift, deeper structures are addressed in addition to the superficial layers to produce a more natural appearance. With a composite facelift, the incision is made from the lateral hairline to the ear-cheek junction and into the posterior hairline.

Minimally Invasive Facelift (Mini Facelift)

Known as a mini facelift, a minimally invasive facelift is a cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of the face. As compared to traditional facelifts, it requires less surgery, takes less time to recover, and carries fewer risks. Typically, this type of facelift lifts and tightens the lower face and jaw line to target early signs of aging. In this facelift type, the incision is made from the lateral hairline to the ear-cheek junction.

Limited Deep Tissue Manipulation Facelift

With a Limited Deep Tissue Manipulation Facelift, you get the best of both worlds: minimally invasive technique and more extensive traditional facelift. In this approach, the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) and the skin are both treated, but with a more conservative procedure than a full deep plane facelift. In this facelift type, the incision is made from the lateral hairline to the ear-cheek junction and into the posterior hairline

Facelift Procedure

Facelifts can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the type. Next, an incision will be made behind or directly behind each ear, extending it to the hairline.

These incisions will vary, but Dr. Little will let you know where they will be placed prior to your surgery. Using these incisions, the skin is elevated from the temple to the cheeks, over the jawline, and into the upper neck. Overlying skin is redraped, and excess skin is removed as the tissues beneath it are tightened and/or repositioned. An aftercare wrap is applied after your incisions have been closed. This procedure takes two to four hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Following surgery, you should rest as much as possible and avoid strenuous activity for the first week. Getting up and walking around several times a day will help circulate blood, but be careful not to lift heavy objects, strain, or run. It is important to avoid working out until after the three-week mark.

The external sutures (Hemostatic Net) may be removed on day three post-op. About five to seven days after surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Little who will remove your sutures and drains. Swelling and bruising is common for the first few weeks, but typically resolves within two to three weeks. Makeup can be used to cover any swelling or bruising that remains.

In most cases, patients feel normal after two to four weeks. Within 12 weeks, you will be fully healed and able to enjoy your facelift!

    - Patients with visible signs of aging

  • Facelift costs vary depending on the specific surgical techniques used, the type of anesthesia administered, prescriptions, other surgical fees, and follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery. A detailed quote will be provided to you by Dr. Little at your consultation.

  • Most facelift results last around ten years, depending on skin type, age, and lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle and good skincare can help maintain results
